The Estate of Art Blakey

The Estate of Art Blakey is managed by Takashi Buhaina Blakey, Administrator, d.b.n. Mr. Blakey is the third-born son of legendary jazz drummer, Art Blakey. He has a wealth of experience in the non-profit performing arts arena and possesses substantial knowledge about the jazz music industry and business operations. He is the driving force behind the Estate and its mission to uphold the Art Blakey legacy.

Prior to assuming leadership of the Estate, Mr. Blakey was employed in the Finance/Administration department of Jazz at Lincoln Center, the world’s largest not-for-profit arts organization dedicated to the preservation of jazz music, under the artistic direction of Wynton Marsalis. In 2002, Mr. Blakey left Jazz at Lincoln Center to pursue a career in facilities/property management at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Inc. In late 2003, Mr. Blakey decided to take a property management position in the corporate sector. He is now a Property Manager and Bank Officer for a highly regarded regional bank, where he manages 70+ retail bank locations in New York City and Hudson Valley.

Mr. Blakey received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Alfred University in Alfred, NY in 1994. He is a member of the National Recording Academy and the International Facilities Management Association.
